Cat Café History

Antigua Cat Cafe was born from more than 16 years of experience working with cats in Guatemala through different stages of animal rescue and welfare. It is an initiative that began in the heart of its director, Angela Kerslake, originally from Canada, in collaboration with Emily Reilly from New York and Luis Callejas from Guatemala.

After traveling and witnessing the needs of abandoned and displaced animals, they decided to support rescue efforts and existing shelters in the region.

Over time, the founder acquired dedicated spaces to provide rescued cats and dogs from the streets with food, shelter, and medical care. This eventually made possible the creation of Antigua Cat Cafe, the first cat café in Central America, dedicated to offering visitors a unique experience with felines while enjoying coffee-based beverages.

The project welcomes both local and international visitors while creating opportunities for recreation, community education, and volunteer involvement. Today, Antigua Cat Cafe continues its mission of improving the lives of rescued animals and promoting awareness about responsible pet care.
